From photograph to heirloom
It begins with a photograph. It becomes something more.
A photo records a moment. A portrait is built over weeks, in hundreds of fine layers of pigment, until what's on the paper feels less like a picture and more like them.
Every piece carries the touch of my hand: the layering of color, the movement of the pencil, the choices only I would make. Faithful to your companion, but alive with something more.

We choose the size and composition, and I send mockups so you can see the plan before I begin. A 25% deposit reserves your place.

Over 4–8 weeks the portrait comes to life, layer by layer. I'll keep you updated along the way.

Hello, I'm Kate.
I'm a realist artist working in colored pencil from my home studio in Canada
, usually with a rescue cat or two close by. I've been drawing in colored pencil for more than twenty years, and I specialize in the animals people love.
My portraits don't just resemble their subjects. They invite you closer, to really look and feel what that face has meant to you. Because every portrait deserves my full attention, I accept only a small number of commissions each year.
